I’m Sofia!

I’m a mixed media artist, curious adventurer, plant lover, walk taker, dancer, and co-caretaker of a feisty puppy.

I am from a lot of places, but I live in Hillsborough, North Carolina.

I started embroidering while experiencing chronic back pain.

During my first year of intense pain, embroidery brought me relief from the unknown. Stitching calmed me after doctors appointments where I was told that nothing was wrong with me. During surgery I was finally diagnosed with endometriosis. (If you or someone you know has endo and wants to talk, please reach out <3)

I’ve been stitching for a while now, and love to incorporate other materials to add texture and meaning to my work. I enjoy sharing my love of embroidery with others during workshops. You can find all upcoming workshops listed here on my website.

the process

All hoops you see here are handmade and one of a kind. I don’t replicate designs or make the same thing twice. The majority of my designs are created spontaneously without a pre-drawn design.

If you want to learn more about my process/how to create your own, come to one of my workshops!

I try to use as much recycled material as possible

fabric, thread, beads, and hoops are often sourced from The Scrap Exchange
